Day 4: Work

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men. (Colossians 3:23)

Have you noticed that one of the first things we ask when we meet someone new is what they do for a living? A person’s occupation might well give us insight into who they are, but for men in particular an occupation can quickly become an identity. Finding one’s identity in Christ, however, creates a shift in perspective: an attitude of serving Him, regardless of employment status. Finding one’s identity in Christ counteracts both laziness and overwork and shapes relationships with employers and co-workers.

Today's Prayer Guide:
* Pray that the men in our lives will work at their jobs as though working for the Lord, neither overworking nor underworking, with gratitude for the work God has provided.
* Pray that men who are unemployed, not yet employed, or looking for an alternate source of employment will find their value in Christ and will find ways to serve Him right where they are. Pray that God will use transition times to strengthen their faith in His provision and that God will lead them to the work He has prepared in advance for them to do.
* Pray that the men of our church will shine like stars in their places of employment, that they’ll find favor with their employers, and that they will have positive, Christ-directed interactions with their co-workers.
* Pray that as women we will support our husbands, brothers, fathers, and sons in finding their identities in Christ and responding to His call regarding work. Pray that we will neither pressure them nor undermine their desire to do meaningful work.
